The Ordinance to Establish Regional Rural Banks In India Was Introduced In 1975 During Indira Gandhi’s Government with The Narshimham Committee Recommendations. Intitally The Authorised Capital for RRBs in india was Rs. 100 crore ($10 Million) which later augmented to 500 crore ($50 million). The Basic Objective Behind Introduced Regional Rural Banks In India Was to provide sufficient banking and credit facility for agriculture and other rural sectors. Recapitalization Of Regional Rural Banks In India
The Charge of Recapitalisation of RRBs In India Was Given To K C Chakrabarty, Deputy Governor of RBI In 2009 To improve their Capital to Risk Weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR). The “K C Chakrabarty Committee” Submitted Few recommendations Which Are Given Below.
Release of Central Government’s share will be contingent on the proportionate release of State Government and Sponsor Bank share.
NABARD will Be the Authority to Provide training and capacity building of the RRB staff. Action Plan will be prepared by NABARD in this regard and sent to Government for approval With the fund of 100 cr. corpus by Government of India.
To help Weak RRBs in India Government made a contingency fund of additional 700 cr.
